Ready to chuck your tree? You can recycle it for free! Here’s some info from the Springs Preserve:
Join the Springs Preserve and the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee in giving our community a gift: Recycle your tree.
Each year from Dec. 26 to Jan. 15, you can take your cut Christmas trees to one of more than 20 convenient drop sites throughout the valley.
The Christmas Tree Recycling Committee, composed of local government agencies, nonprofits and businesses, has worked to keep Christmas trees out of Southern Nevada’s local landfills since 2001.
Recycling your tree helps ensure the sustainability of our community by saving valuable landfill space. When chipped into mulch, cut trees become valuable organic material used in landscaping projects that help conserve soil moisture and keep plants healthy. There is no charge for this service.
How to Prepare Your Tree
Before dropping off your tree, remove all non-organic objects such as lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments and nails. Foreign objects can contaminate the mulch and ruin the chipper. Flocked trees cannot be recycled.
Tree Pick Up
1-800-GOT-JUNK will pick up trees from homes for $30. The fee includes removal of tree and clean-up of pine needles. The tree will then be dropped off at one of the designated recycling drop-off locations.
The service is available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during the Christmas Tree Recycling program season. Customers can call 1-800-468-5865 (1-800-GOT-JUNK) 24 hours a day to schedule a pick up, or book online at 1800GOTJUNK.com.
Special Tree Recycling Events
New this year, the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee and Station Casinos are sponsoring three special opportunities to recycle your Christmas tree. On Jan. 8, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bring your tree to be recycled to Green Valley Ranch, Boulder Station, or Fiesta Rancho. If you bring your tree to Boulder Station or Fiesta Rancho, you will receive a 2-for-1 buffet coupon!
