First, let me say a big WELCOME to any new BlogHer readers who have stumbled over to the humble Sin City Siren. We hope you like what you see here. And please feel free to let us know what you think!

For long-time readers, you know there’s been a sort of open debate about whether or not this is a political blog. Or, at least I debate this in my mind. So it is validating and amusing to see that I have been put on the new BlogHer Guide to Political Bloggers.

So, what’s The Siren all about?

This blog is designed to be a space where like-minded feminists can come together, exchange ideas and build a stronger, better community. A central theme at The Siren is equality for all people — be it between the sexes, for sexual orientations, people of all colors, all religions, for workers rights. For everyone, period. And that includes the animals, too.

We write about the intersection of Las Vegas and feminism, LGBT issues as well as the ecological issues of living in a mass-consumer-driven city in the desert. But The Siren is also a place where we write about the politics, issues and pop culture in the world at large.

We place a heavy emphasis on getting involved in your community, activism (no fans of Walmart around here), participating in politics and voting. We try to work collaboratively with other feminist, political, Nevada bloggers as well as many of the great local organizations who are working toward issues we care about (such as Nevada NOW, Planned Parenthood of Southern Nevada, Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, HRC, The Gay and Lesbian Center, The Sierra Club, the Nevada Conservation League and others). Nobody can do this alone! Last July The Sin City Siren organized the Las Vegas leg of the Fag Bug tour with the help of several local organizations, businesses and volunteers.

Finally, it is my personal mission to support charitable living, be it through donations or volunteering.
