Enough is enough! Now the Siren finds out that there is a clause that re-victimizes rape survivors because of a “contributory conduct” rule?! Disgusting! According to an Aug. 19 Las Vegas Sun story, the clause is part of the Nevada Victims of Crime Compensation Program, which seeks to help survivors with costs related to their attack. So far, nine victims of sexual assault have been denied funds from the state program.
Let’s read between the “official” lines here: The victims deserved it because their conduct asked for it.
When are we going to wake up in this society and admit, once and for all, that rape is rape. And that rape is always wrong. Period.
The rules for this program are under review by state Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto.
