The Las Vegas Review Journal’s story about the anti-immigrant sentiment throughout the Western states is quite chilling. According to the story, only 31% of Nevadans polled felt positively about immigrants from Latin countries compared to 47% feeling negative. (Another disturbing trend is the societal conflating of “illegal immigrants” with any immigrant from a Spanish-speaking country.)
When so many people are crossing the border into the United States illegally, doesn’t that show evidence that there is a problem with the immigration laws in our country? And considering that America is a country founded by immigrants and built by immigrants, shouldn’t we finally learn a lesson on inclusiveness after 200-odd years?
