One of my favorite local eco-activists, Tara Pike was featured on the TLC program What Not to Wear tonight!
I loved that the Rebel Recycling program got some national TV time (as well as spotlighting that there are people in Las Vegas who are not completely obsessed with gross consumerism and a throw-away culture)! Tara started the Rebel Recycling program as a student and has made it her career to help Southern Nevada do better when it comes to the environment. Between 2003 and 2006, the UNLV program recycled more than 2,000 tons of materials saving more than 15 million gallons of water and nearly 8.8 million kw of power! Kudos!
Another plus of this episode was that it focused on ways to offset your carbon footprint and ways to do fashion in an eco-conscious way. (I saw her using reusable shopping bags! 🙂 ) And, I liked that in the end Tara become a model for how you can be sexy by wearing eco-friendly duds and an environmentalist mom-on-the-go! You rock Tara!
Now get out there and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
