Vegas culture, no really

Some cultural stuff going on Las Vegas in the upcoming days, for your consideration:

  • Now through Aug. 12 Las Vegas is ground-zero for RollerCon 2007, a national convention for roller derby leagues from around the country. Learn how to skate! Watch some scrimmages! Get a tattoo! Have some bad-ass fun! Anything’s possible as these awesome ladies crash our town for the biggest derby gig all year!
  • On Saturday, Aug. 11, hang out with local author and CityLife journalist Matt O’Brien for his Beneath the Neon book signing. He’ll be at the Barnes & Noble at 8915 W. Charleston Blvd. from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Also on Saturday, a Las Vegas NO KIDDING chapter event. If you’re child-free by choice and want to hang out with other adults who share your sentiments, this is your chance. They are meeting at the Ice House at 5 p.m. (650 Main St.) and heading over to shoot some pool at the Cue Club, 953 E. Sahara Ave., at 6:30 p.m.
  • And if the Fag Bug only whetted your appetite for local activism, head on over to Firefly at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, for the next HRC (Human Rights Campaign) meeting of the women’s subcommittee. The HRC’s women’s group was instrumental in helping me organize the Fag Bug activities last month and it is a great place to meet women in the community who are doing amazing things and are interested in activism.
