Goodies

Let’s take a breather from my long-winded tirades and see what some other folks are ranting about:

  • What’s so wrong with being a girl? If you’re a girl in a comic book, maybe everything. Mother Jones explains.
  • Southern Nevada’s newspaper by and for the homeless population, Forgotten Voice, has officially become a non-profit. Congrats to them! That makes donations to them (on which they survive) now a tax deductible item. And if you’re a street person or know someone who is, the paper is seeking submissions.
  • Do you have some conservation ideas you’d like to share with Sen. Harry Reid? You’ll get your chance at an open town hall meeting on Aug. 14 at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. The Nevada Conservation League is encouraging folks to turn out or send in their opinions via the internet.
  • Don’t forget to recycle your phone books. For the entire month of August Republic Services and Embarq are teaming up to accept old phone books for free. There will be big yellow bins to drop off the old books, so don’t be a douchebag and throw yours out.
  • Annoying article of the week: Marie Claire explains how awesome being a Fembot is (as in, all the virtues of feminism with all the stereotypes of man-hating).
