FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 25, 2012

LAS VEGAS, NV — Stonewall Democrats of Nevada, Nevada’s largest and most active grassroots organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Democrats, are co-hosting an early vote rally at the Boulevard Mall (an early vote location) on the last Saturday of Nevada’s early vote period with a diverse coalition of pro-equality organizations and elected officials.

In 2010 both Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the DREAM Act were up for a vote in the House and Senate. LGBTQ Nevadans and local DREAMers worked together to repeal DADT and pass the DREAM Act. Using collective power and strategic planning, both communities and their allies worked together closely to lobby members of Congress and educate Nevadans about both pieces of legislation. The repeal of DADT was successful, but the DREAM Act failed due to Republican obstruction.

Both communities continue to organize together and Stonewall has committed itself to helping pass the DREAM Act and humane immigration reform. On Saturday Stonewall will vote in honor of the DREAMers, knowing one day soon these Nevadans, who President Obama calls Americans in every way but their paperwork, will cast a ballot of their own.
