The Sin City Sirens bowling team for the National Network of Abortion Funds bowl-a-thon will be playing this Sunday (April 15) at 1pm at the South Point Bowling alley! Sign up for the team here! Or, just show up with a donation and join in the fun! The important thing is to raise funds for this good cause and have a good time!
Are you participating in the AFAN AIDS Walk that morning? Consider this your chill after-party! Re-hydrate after the fun outside and throw a few strikes to work those arms. How often can you make a difference for so many populations in the same day?
More and more roadblocks are being raised to access through laws requiring extended waiting periods — Utah just upped theirs from 24 hours to 72 hours! — and invasive transvaginal ultrasounds, just to name a couple. As if that weren’t enough, we also have people like Idaho Senator Chuck Winder questioning the validity of women’s claims of rape, as an excuse to get an abortion. Obviously, this guy (who is a proponent of not just one but two ultrasounds before an abortion), is a douchebag. But these days it seems you can’t throw a pig without hitting an anti-choice douchebag!
And, let’s face it, the recent bombing at a Wisconsin Planned Parenthood is a sobering reminder of the terrorist mindset of the anti-choice movement.
So, honestly, what are you waiting for? This is a chance to provide access to women all over the country who struggle to come up with the basic fees for the procedure — which can range from $450 to $3000 — and then sometimes just can’t quite cover all the other added costs (thanks in no small part to all these douchebag roadblocks). Child care, time off work, gas money to drive to the clinic which can sometimes be in another state, hotel (if there’s a waiting period), additional fees for additional procedures (like ultrasounds)… the list goes on and on. It’s easy to see why we need the Abortion Funds network! They fill the gaps and help women — often already mothers — who just need that extra bit to break through those roadblocks!
What if you knew without a shadow of a doubt that $100 could change someone’s life?
What if the $25 you donate helps right the wrong of a woman sexually assaulted in prison?
Even $5 can make the difference! You could be the one who helps create a second chance for a promising 14-year-old girl.
These are real people. They are not statistics. They are not the hobgoblins that conservative douchebags want us to fear or vilify. They are people. And they deserve access to all legal forms of health care without shame, without impediment.
They deserve dignity. And that’s what we can help ensure!
Please join my team — whether as a virtual bowler or as a real-live bowler on April 15 — and help create the world that should already be!
