So, it’s been kind of heavy around here lately. But hey, I’m not a Grinch. Let’s lighten it up this week as everyone twirls breathlessly toward Dec. 25. How about kicking it off with a little altruism mixed with our capitalism?If you’re dashing out to pick up some last-minute gifts this week, why not get a gift or two for some needy folks…

• You still have time — until 6pm tonight! — to “adopt” a homeless teen and help them have a happy holiday! Check out the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth wishlist for their clients.
• The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada is having a youth holiday party on Thursday. Help ’em make it really jolly and donate a gift!
• Shameless plug alert: My church, Northwest Community Church, runs a charity called God’s Groceries. We help families hit hard and the demand is up by double-digit percentages. Gift cards, personal hygiene products, baby items, and of course, food are all needed.
