Have You Experienced Health Care Discrimination?

This week is National LGBT Health Awareness Week.  We invite you to join Lambda Legal in observing this week by helping us collect the stories of LGBT people and those living with HIV who have been directly affected by health care discrimination.

Share Your Story today and help us ask policy-makers and health care providers to ensure that LGBT people and people living with HIV receive care free from discrimination.

In Lambda Legal’s recent health care fairness survey, most of the 5,000 respondents reported experiencing discrimination in health care settings—including more than half of all lesbian, gay and bisexual respondents, 70 percent of transgender respondents and 63 percent of respondents living with HIV.

The findings are shocking, but we need to add personal stories to the statistics.

On the heels of the historic passage of national health care reform, it’s important that we draw attention to the issues faced by LGBT people and those living with HIV. Health care reform is an important step toward improving access for millions of Americans, but much more must be done to address the specific needs of LGBT and HIV communities.
