Call for local female artists

The HRC’s Women’s Empowerment Network (WEN) is hosting a SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) event in Las Vegas on March 29 at the Freakin’ Frog. Those of you who helped with or went to any of the local Fag Bug events last July know that the nascent WEN group was instrumental in helping me coordinate those events. So here’s another chance to get involved in something pretty awesome!

There are slots for performance art, film shorts and visual art.

Here’s the details:

Women’s Empowerment Network will be joining a world-wide celebration of women artists as part of the first international “Support Women Artists Now Day” (SWAN Day). It will be a day to raise visibility and raise funds for women artists – a powerful new way to put the spotlight on women’s cultural contributions during the final weekend of Women’s History Month. Women’s Empowerment Network is planning a day long event celebrating local women artists in dance, music, spoken word, and other performance arts, film shorts and the visual arts. SWAN Day is being facilitated by The Fund for Women Artists, a non-profit arts service organization which is dedicated to helping women artists get the resources they need to do their creative work. Over the past decade The Fund for Women Artists has raised over $4 million and built a website at that offers networking, fundraising and advocacy services to over 500,000 visitors a year.

SWAN Day Las Vegas will be located at the Freakin’ Frog, a corporate sponsor, at 4700 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 8, Las Vegas, NV 89119. The PERFORMANCE ART will be showcased on the main stage throughout the event on March 29, 2008.

And if you’re not exactly artistically inclined, you can always help pass out Call For Artist fliers at First Friday! For more details you can e-mail organizers at
