This is slightly off of the usual topics but I just finished reading Gregory Maguire’s Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. (I know. I’m behind the times in my reading …) I’m wondering if any Siren readers out there have any thoughts on the book? (Not interested in the play/musical just yet.) I will be sure to add them to the Siren book list.
I read the original L. Frank Baum The Wonderful Wizard of Oz just before Wicked and have had a life-long love affair with the 1939 MGM movie. Have to say that I found both Baum’s and Maguire’s books delightful and enchanting, in their own ways. (Of course, they are quite different from each other and yet make each – and the movie – that much richer.) And I definitely plan to get Son of a Witch to read next.
Perhaps it’s the old English major in me, but I’m dying to discuss the book(s). E-mail me or leave a post, iffns you’re interested.
