This Saturday is the National Day of Climate Action, which is organized through StepItUp.org.
The purpose of the event is to get our national leaders’ attention by showing up in large numbers at these events, hosted by various community and environmental groups nationwide, and encourage them to actually BE leaders when it comes to climate legislation. Who’s going to step up to the plate?
There are two events in Clark County, but really it looks like they’ve molded into one event at Henderson’s Whitney Park. Check it out!
Wouldn’t it be awesome if SO many people showed up that the the local news was called, and everyone was like, “Where are our legislators, we invited them” and then the newspapers did a big expose on what Harry Reid and John Ensign, etc. were up to on Saturday November 3rd – doing lame stuff like golfing or whatever – when they coulda been at the climate event? And this big hubbub was created JUST BECAUSE people cared enough to show up at a park on a beautiful LV October Saturday to support something important? And then Reid and Ensign felt enough pressure from the community that they actually started doing MORE to support climate-friendly legislation and making a difference?
Dare to dream, I say.
I just love these “National Days of…” They’re such a great example of democracy in action, of people getting together in small bunches across the country to make one big statement…
And isn’t that what America is really all about?
It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
