More madcap money news

Are we down to Wish Sandwiches yet? (A wish sandwich is when you have two pieces of bread and you wish you had some meat.)

  • First, the history of Nevada’s tax system, so we know how we got so fucked.
  • Some estimates about how much money might make its way to Nevada, if the president’s stimulus package is passed. (Thanks Gleaner)
  • But first, the stark numbers of just who is going to get hit the worst, first. Spoiler: It’s Nevada’s poorest children.
  • And approaching 10 percent of Nevada’s working population is unemployed! Seriously. In December 2008 the rate hit 9.1, up from 5.2 for the same month a year before. And up from 7.9 percent just a month before. It’s the 8th highest jobless rate in the nation.
  • Meanwhile, tens of thousands more layoffs announced nationally — Home Depot, Microsoft, Intel, Pfizer, GM and on.
  • Even Girl Scout cookies are getting smaller and shrinking the box, because of increased costs on ingredients and manufacturing. Will nothing be spared in this terrible economy?!

  1. Thanks! I’m downright flattered.

Girl Scout Cookies are one thing… but if another seasonal delight takes a dive, the real apocalypse will have officially been heralded:

Please, oh Deity Above, spare the Cadburry Eggs!!!
