Perhaps this is going to end up being like the whole designer shopping bag fad (see my Eco-Chic post), but I admit I get excited when I hear about folks trying to mitigate their carbon footprint. Presidential candidate Chris Dodd announced yesterday that their campaign is officially going carbon-neutral with the help of a carbon off-set program by CarbonFund. I also recently read about a movie producer (I can’t remember which one) who’s looking to make his next film in a carbon-neutral way.
Of course it’s always best to just stop doing things that hurt the earth, but sometimes that’s not possible. (Hey, if I have a heart attack, I want to be transported to the hospital as quickly as possible and that means an ambulance.) Carbon off-set programs aren’t the answer, but they can play a role. Everything in moderation.
