Family Practice Part 3: The Long View

For the third and final chapter of the Family Practice series (Part 1, Part 2) I want to talk about the long view on contraception and family planning. How does parenthood (or the desire to never have kids) change our goals regarding contraception? And what about that ubiquitous question: When are you having another baby?…

Get Out the Vote!

Folks, if you haven’t heard, early voting has started in Nevada (and lasts through Oct. 29 — look up a convenient polling place here!). People, the whole nation is watching Nevada on this one. Let’s not pull a Florida 2000, okay? No matter what you’re political persuasion, let’s get out there and vote! No embarrassing…

Boiling point

What’s that drumbeat you hear? It’s the war-cry of lactivists ready to march all over parents who use formula. While it’s always a hot-button issue, things heated up last week when the Similac recall was announced (certain batches tested positive for beetles — gross). Divorce court, civil court (for conspiracy to prohibit due process for Chrissy Mazzeo, whom he allegedly attempted to sexually assault) and now sued for wrongful termination (aka abuse of power, ala Sarah Palin). Gibby’s…

Disturbing anti-immigrant poll

The Las Vegas Review Journal’s story about the anti-immigrant sentiment throughout the Western states is quite chilling. According to the story, only 31% of Nevadans polled felt positively about immigrants from Latin countries compared to 47% feeling negative. (Another disturbing trend is the societal conflating of “illegal immigrants” with any immigrant from a Spanish-speaking country.)…
